Science fiction (Sci-fi) is a genre of film that focuses scientific and often times futuristic concepts. Many of these films contain scientific phenomenons such as time/space travel or aliens. While the content seen in science fiction is frequently unearthly, it does not include elements of fantasy (wizardry, spirituality etc). Also, this list does not include films that focus on horror, or those that are animated. These directors are ranked according to their directional technique, their longevity and popularity, along with their impact and influence in the film industry. While the director's general success is important, this list emphasizes the success and importance in the specified film genre more strongly.
